Kenya arbantone artist George Njuguna alias Tipsy Gee has shared the incredible amount of cash he was making from the social media platform, TikTok in 2023.

During a recent interview, Tipsy Gee revealed the amount of cash he was making made him at the time miss his classes. By the end of that particular semester, he decided not to go back to college.

“I was surprised to know that in a single day, I would make KSH 20,000 or KSH 30,00 per day from TikTok,” the rapper said.

With these amounts, he thought of how to capitalize on music full-time. He shared with his mother about plans to sacrifice his studies.

“I convinced my mom that my music was taking shape and wanted more time to concentrate on it. She agreed to my decision to hold off on my studies and in case it doesn’t work out, I will go back to class,” Tipsy Gee shared.

With the tiktok money the taki nakati singer relocated from Kawangware to Roysambu in Nairobi. He says it was an upgrade of their house he was staying with his mother.

“My house was more expensive and luxurious than my mom’s.”

Later on when his music started to go big, Tipsy Gee started to get calls for shows and gigs,

“I was surprised getting paid KSH 15,000 on my first show which I had performed for about an hour,” Tipsy revealed.

He says at the time, to him that was a huge amount of cash compared to the peanuts he used to get as a casual laborer on construction sites.

Tipsy later comes to realize he was being taken advantage of. Just like any upcoming artist, fellow artists used to take him for a ride in the name of giving him a platform to get known. He came to discover that promoters could not get in touch with him directly and his artists seized the opportunity to milk him dry. For instance, a client would set aside KSH 50,000 for Tipsy but what would reach him was KSH 35,000 less.

“Once I added my contact details on my profile things changed. I started getting calls directly from promoters and it is when I knew I was being taken advantage of for the past three months.”
