16 pupils from Hill Side Endarasha Academy in Kieni, Nyeri County have been confirmed dead after fire broke up in the school at 3 am on Friday burning them beyond recognition.
14 more pupils who sustained serious burn injuries were rushed to Nyeri Provincial General Hospital where they are receiving treatment.
President William Ruto has while condoning with the bereaved families, wished speedy recovery to the survivors.
“Our thoughts are with the families of the children who have lost their lives in the fire tragedy at the Hillside Endarasha Academy in Nyeri County.”
The president directed thorough investigation to establish the cause of the fire.
“I instruct relevant authorities to thoroughly investigate this horrific incident. Those responsible will be held to account,”Ruto said.
He further instructed the Ministry of Interior and Coordination of the National Government to mobilize necessary resources and support the affected families.
According to the National Police Service Spokesperson Resila Onyango, the cause of the fire was yet to be established by the time of publishing this article.
