In interviews fans are tired of knowing that music is your passion,and they need to see the professionalism in your art.Music pays,very well. All the big artists we see around had to put more effort in their music to be where they are today. Never let you be branded a one hit wonder like Uncle Konaya of Merimela.
Music is a very competitive industry and your consistent will see you stand out. Cheza KE the last time he had his statistics noted that there were over 6000 artists in Kenya. But how many do you know? As an artist,being consistent has more advantage. Firstly, you will retain your current fan base and also expand it. Expansion of your fan base only has more advantages than you can imagine.
Back then, Timmy Tdat was recording one song per year for about 6 years or so before making it big. We knew Khaligraph Jones from the numerous freestyles he did,talk about rap battles. He never stopped doing it but look at him now! He is one of the top rappers in the country. Octopizzo the same case,back in Kibera. King Kaka being a CEO he is now was not possible of if he hadn’t put that consistence in writing his poems and delivering good tunes. There are so many examples I can give but that is for another day.
Alvindo the new kid in the block,sailed with his viral clip/song Taka Taka but now he has 3 tunes under his belt. Soon he will be all over mainstream media. Ethic started as a joke in their hood,their consistency has placed them where you can witness. Am glad to talk about Nadia Mukami. At a very young age,she has managed to do great things in the industry. After her breakthrough song,Si Rahisi she never stopped there. African Lover,Yule Yule came through. This saw her get a chance to be featured in Coke Studio Africa.
So as an artist,music is the product that yoy are giving to your clients (fans). Will you sell the product once and relax? Presumably your product was recently introduced to the market and after tasting it,its demand rose, what will you do? In business, you should learn the market trends especially demand and supply curve of your product.
Some of the artists whose product was sweet and enjoyable but ain’t available in the Kenyan market are many. I will highlight a few but more on the next post. Where is Jay A or Majirani for instance ?
